Russell Davenport Obituary
Russell W. Davenport, 72, of Huxley, husband of Norma Kay and father of Kent Alan, Kirk Eugene and Lisa Lynn, died peacefully Monday, March 12, at Madrid Home. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 16, in Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Russell W. Davenport was born May 30, 1934, in Benton, to Roy and Sylvia (Spencer) Davenport. He retired in 1992 from Ballard School District where he taught all but one year of his teaching career. Many students fondly called him "Mr. D."
In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by one daughter-in-law, Kelly; one son-in-law, Mark Beers; two grandchildren, Trevor and Matt Beers; two brothers, Cecil (Betty) and R.B. (Mary); two brothers-in-law, Don (Barbara) Corll and Larry Corll; one sister-in-law, Vera Davenport; three nieces, Kelley, Michelle and Stacey Davenport; and one nephew, Kenny Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Leroy and Kenneth.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Trinity United Methodist Church of Huxley. Following the visitation, a fellowship dinner in celebration of Russell's life will be at Ballard Golf and Country Club in Huxley.
Memorials may be made to his church, Trinity United Methodist Church in Huxley.
Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Davenport was my driver's ed teacher and also was the study hall teacher a few times when I was at Ballard High School. What a nice guy with a GREAT sense of humor! He will be sorely missed. Robin (Aldrich) Blue---Marshalltown,Ia.

I was one of the hundreds of kids who knew Mr. Davenport at Ballard High. He clearly liked teaching and he liked kids. May God rest his Soul.
