Dorothy Jones Obituary

Dorothy "Dottie" Jernigan Jones, 79, of Covington, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025, in her home in Covington. Dottie fought hard against a stage four cancer diagnosis in 2023. She, trusting in the Lord with all her heart, maintained a positive attitude throughout and always told everyone that she would be healed either here or in heaven. She had just completed a book titled ''A Mom's Shattered Heart'' before her diagnosis. Her testimony in this book and throughout her life has given countless people hope on how to find peace and joy in the midst of turmoil. Though her earthly journey is finished, her story and message will continue to touch and inspire people in many ways. Dorothy was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on February 21, 1946, to James and Stella Jernigan. In 1964 she married Tommy Jones, (of Coffeeville, Ms.), in Kenner, Louisiana. In 1978 the family moved to Lacombe, Louisiana. This is where Craig, her second child drowned, and is the inspiration behind her book. She retired from Northlake Medical Supply, after 25 years, where she loved her job helping provide people with the medical equipment they needed. She was preceded in death by a son, Craig T. Jones. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Tommy Jones; one son, Brad Jones; brother, James D. Jernigan; and other relatives. Funeral Services will be held at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd West, Slidell LA 70460 on Saturday, October 11, 2025. The visitation will begin at 9:00am followed by the funeral service at 11:00am.

Sister Dottie was a beautiful lady and a mighty prayer warrior she will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her, praying for the arms of comfort that only God can give for Bro Tommy and Brad

Our beautiful Sis Dottie, She was as precious as they come. There was never a time in her life that she didn’t make herself available to pray for you are be there for comfort and fellowship. The Bowers family loves the Jones family. What a great witness and testimony of God’s love. Sis Dottie was right there for us when our son Aaron died in an accident. She walked with us, prayed for us. She used her pain of what her family went through to minister to us. Knowing physically what her body was going through and believing God to heal her. She was right there in person or on the phone continuously praying for my Beth and myself. She kept me encouraged. Beth was waiting at the gates of Heaven ready to welcome Sis Dottie in. They are united together completely healed. My prayers are with Bro. Tommy and Brad. God will give the strength they need to walked this journey in there lives. There are so many that have gone before us. Jesus is our comfort and peace in the time of our grief. We will truly miss her.

Dottie was a precious beautiful woman of God. She was an amazing wife, mother, sibling, and a friend to many. She showed the love of Jesus to us all. Through the blessings and tribulations in your life you stayed faithful and true to the Lord. Her love for Jesus showed by the way you loved others. You were so loved . I know you are now with Jesus, and your son Craig and all your loved ones who went before you. Thank God for his promises. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. You will be greatly missed. It is not goodbye but see you later my sweet precious friend. Our condolences, thoughts, ,and prayers are with you Tommy, Brad, & Jimmy in this difficult time we love y’all. ❤
