Buettner, Doris 3/31/1925 - 4/4/2021 Doris Blaess (Smith) Buettner passed away Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021, at her residence with her daughter at her side. Doris was born in Saline, MI on March 31, 1925 to Carl and Emma Smith. Doris graduated from Saline High School. Her parents preceded her in death as well as her brothers, Harold (in infancy) and John. She was raised in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church and was currently a member at Redeemer Evangelical Church in Ann Arbor. Doris married Howard J. Buettner in 1946 and together they welcomed two daughters, Pamela and Trudy. Doris's greatest tragedies were the loss of her husband and daughter, Trudy. Most of her life Doris was a homemaker whose clean house was always sparkling and the food was extremely delicious. She was also an avid vegetable gardener. Howard was employed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Doris joined with other wives in a group called the Fish Wives for years. Howard and Doris were founding members of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Doris finally convinced Howard to travel and they made trips to Europe and Hawaii. After Howard's passing, Doris made it a point to continue her worldly travel by joining the Jackson Trippers and a Pittsfield Township senior group to see the world. Much appreciation goes to Lucinda and Karen Fleckenstein for working out the ability of their bridge group bunch to meet for many years: Francis Spelman, Barb Rolfe and Lucinda who was the self-appointed chauffeur as the women aged. Additional thanks to Doris's next-door neighbor on Agincourt, DJ Johnson, who took care of her home maintenance and looked out for her. And lastly, special thanks to the Brookhaven staff and the Arbor Hospice team who provided help and guided the family to the end. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 3:30pm before the Funeral Service at 4pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ann Arbor. Light refreshments will be served in the next door building prior to the service. Masks and social distancing will be observed. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, attendance limitations may apply as the church can have up to 50 people. Memorial contributions may be made in Doris's honor to Redeemer Lutheran Church or Arbor Hospice. In sadness, Doris will not be able to see her beloved magnolia tree bloom this year nor will her daughter, Pamela continue to receive the daily call to double check that she is okay.
