Reginald Harry Fischer

Fischer, Reginald Harry age 96, passed away January 10, 2021 in Bellaire, Michigan. Beloved husband of Joanne, dear father of Eric (Kristine) Fischer, and Amy (Jeffrey) Fischer, loving grandfather of Kaite Fischer, adored uncle of Faye Zimmerman, Gary Kellogg, Nancy Bartlett, & Shirley Kruger, and many more nieces and nephews. He is preceeded in death by loving sister Anne (Kellogg) and brother Andrew Fischer. Reg was born February 19, 1924 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts to Andrew A. & Minnie (Schickler) Fischer. He grew up in Bridgewater and Ann Arbor where he attended Saline High School. On his 18th birthday he enlisted in theU.S. Navy. He proudly served in World War II on the Aircraft Carrier CVE-95 USS Bismark Sea and survived the sinking of his ship at Iwo Jima. He was an accomplished pilot and remained a member of the Navy Reserves for over 40 years after his Active Duty Honorable Discharge with many commendations. On December 12, 1953 he married Joanne Osmer in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. Reg's love of cars resulted in his becoming a master mechanic while he owned gasoline stations in Ann Arbor. After many years he moved his family to Traverse City where he remained, for 50 years, the go-to person for both family and friends for any kind of car problems. He was a strong and modest man who made friends wherever he went. His family and friends will miss his quick smile, easy laugh, bear hugs, and so much more. Private family celebration will be held at a later date.

So very sorry to read about Reg. He was a wonderful man. I got to know Reg in the early 70's when he operated the Texaco Station at Jackson and Zeeb Rd's in Ann Arbor. Always ready to help anyone,he really was one of a kind. Very sorry for your loss

Uncle Reg taught me about everything I know about taking care of my car. From tune-ups to over hauls and he fixed everything I couldn't. I miss all the times I spent at his gas station, a few hunting trips together, the time he lived with us when I was in high school. The car he let me use when I didn't have one. And his motorcycle I rode when no one was home. So many many things over the years.. Miss you Reggie

Reg was a friend of my father Jerry Szynwelski. I am sure he undercharged me for some repair work on my first car knowing I probably didn’t have the money at the time. Beside being a great man,Mr.Fischer was a veteran to be admired for his long service. My thoughts and prayers to the Fischer family.
