Sarah E. Gallagher
Gallagher, Sarah E. 6/22/1993 - 10/11/2021 Ann Arbor, Michigan Our loving daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Gallagher, 28, died by suicide on Monday, October 11, 2021. She was a sexual assault survivor and has struggled with mental health disease for several years since. The strength and courage she displayed in fighting her depression inspired all who knew her. Sadly, her pain became overwhelming and unbearable. Mental health illness is a hideous disease with limited treatment options and far too few providers to care for people who suffer from this disease. Sarah's illness however will not define her legacy. Sarah will always be remembered for her big loving heart, her beautiful smile, her generous spirit and affection for family, friends and the children she cared for in her days as an Early Childhood educator. Sarah graduated with a degree in Elementary Education from MSU and her passion was working with children. She also had a love for piano, music, yoga, meditation and painting. She was a fierce field hockey player back in her high school years at Pioneer High School and also enjoyed a few theater jaunts in the off season. She touched the hearts of many other lives in a meaningful way during her short life. She was and still is deeply loved by her family. We will always cherish her memory and hold her in our hearts forever. She leaves a large loving family who will miss her immensely. Sarah is survived by her parents: mother, Teresa (Jonathan) Ayers and father, Patrick (Kathryn) Gallagher; her sister, Chelsea (Mike) Kulick; her stepbrothers, Liam (Christine) Ayers, Nathan (Jessica) Ayers, Nicholas Ayers and Cameron Fortune; nephew, Finnegan Kulick; grandparents, Donald and Beverly Taylor and Ellen Ayers; as well as many, many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place on Sunday, October 17, 2021 from 2:00 pm until the time of the Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 pm. If you are not fully vaccinated, the family respectfully requests that masks are worn to keep friends and family safe while we gather to celebrate Sarah's life. In lieu of flowers the family would like you to consider supporting one of the following programs: NAMI of Michigan, or American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, or National Sexual Assault Hotline, If you or someone you know is contemplating suicide please call the US National Suicide Prevention hotline #1800-273-8255 or text HELLO to 741741.

I am gutted by this news, and I'm so, so, sorry for your loss. The moment I saw the obituary and Sarah's face, I instantly remembered her from school at Pioneer, from my favorite graduating class of all time. I want you to know that your message is one of immense grace about the pain that she lived with, and I'm very grateful for the way you honor Sarah and her pain. I'm also in awe that you could do so, through your grief. Thank you, and I wish you all the best at what must be one of the most painful times of your lives.

Sarah will be deeply missed. She had a kindness and sparkly about her that most do not have. Every party Sarah came and helped with she made so special. Her artistic ability and amazing handwriting made these theme birthday parties possible. From her artistic Harry Potter signs and ties, to Pusheen the cat and cookie decorating we remember Sarah with so much love she had to give all. Thank you for writing such an honest and open obituary about Sarah. We are so sorry for your loss.
