Arthur Fite Obituary

Arthur Freeman Fite, III, of Anniston, Alabama, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at the age of 78. He was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, on December 12, 1944, to Arthur Freeman Fite, Jr. and MaryAnn Fite. He grew up in Jasper, Alabama, and graduated from Jasper High School. He attended Vanderbilt University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in economics. He then went on to Oxford University in England for a semester. He returned to the United States and graduated from the Alabama School of Law in 1970. He clerked for a Justice on the Alabama Supreme Court before beginning his career in private practice. After law school, Mr. Fite began practicing law in Anniston. He specialized in civil litigation and had a successful career that spanned over 50 years. He was known for his intelligence, strength, integrity, and dedication to his clients. There was nothing that made him feel more alive than a jury trial, and he was a part of more than 100 jury trials in his career. Arthur was a past President of the YMCA and the Anniston Country Club. He served for 30 years on the board of the Farmers and Merchants Bank and spent 12 years on the Board of Directors for the Regional Medical Center in Anniston. In addition to his legal career, Mr. Fite was also a passionate music lover, car enthusiast (a minority owner of The Kia Store of Anniston and Rainbow City), and a collector of sports coats. He was also a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Pam; his son, Freeman; his daughter-in-law, Brittany; and his grandchildren, Payton and Bodie, and his cousin Sally Edrington, and her husband, Richard. He is preceded in death by his father, Arthur Freeman Fite, Jr., his mother MaryAnn Fite, and his younger brother, John Fite. A service will be held at the Memorial Gardens at Grace Episcopal Church in Anniston on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 3:00 p.m.. A reception will follow at the Anniston Country Club. Mr. Fite will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He was a generous and compassionate man who touched the lives of many. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Episcopal Church.
