Doris June Lett Richardson, from Jacksonville, known affectionately as June, Mom and Grammy, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on November 22, 2021. June was born on June 14, 1932 in Marshall County, Alabama to Ailene Howell Lett and J.D. Lett. When June was fourteen, her family moved to the Tredegar area of Calhoun County. June was a 1948 graduate of Jacksonville High School and attended Jacksonville State Teachers College. When she was 19, June moved to Washington D.C. to work for the FBI but she returned one year later because of her love for her family and the beauty of Alabama. In 1952, June took a job in personnel at the recently reopened Fort McClellan. She believed it was fate that led her here because in 1956 it was through this job that she met the love of her life, John Richardson. June continued working throughout her marriage and retired after a 42-year career as a federal civil servant. June was a devout Christian and an active member of Westside Baptist Church for 75 years. June and John were married in the church in 1957, and for decades she served as a Sunday School teacher, a member of numerous church committees and was the church treasurer for over 45 years. June was an active member of the Jacksonville community where she and John raised their three children, taking an active role in Boy Scouts, sports, and the JHS band. June stayed active after her retirement in 1993, working in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program and continuing to serve her church. June enjoyed traveling and RV camping trips with John and family. She had a great memory, a keen sense of humor, and was known for her wonderful stories about family history. June always enjoyed spending time with her family and her memory will be cherished by them for her unconditional love as a wife, mother and grandmother. She is predeceased by her parents, Ailene and J.D. Lett, her brother Howell Lett, and her sister Barbara Lett Rooney Chandler. She leaves behind her loving and devoted husband of 64 years, John Lewis Richardson, her children, Sharon Elizabeth Richardson (Diana Henry), John Louis Richardson, and David Patrick Richardson (Kristen Alley) and her two grandchildren, Macon Alexandra Richardson and Jacob Evans Richardson. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, November 29, 2021 at Westside Baptist Church with Rev. Truman Norred officiating. Burial will follow at Jacksonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 28, 2021 from 4 PM until 6 PM at the K.L. Brown Funeral & Crematory.
