Gary Alan Shaw

1952 - 2022

Gary Alan Shaw passed away peacefully at the age of 69 on February 19, 2022, at Platte County Memorial Hospital, Wheatland, Wyoming, after a brave battle with cancer and pneumonia. Gary was born in Marysville, Ohio, on July 29, 1952, to Wilmer C. Shaw and Alma L. (Rausch) Shaw. He attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Marysville High School in 1970. He was employed at the Marysville Journal Tribune, Rausch's Marathon, Shaw Cycle Sales, Marysville Drive-In Theater, and helped drive a Columbus Dispatch delivery route in Ohio. Gary test-rode motorcycles at the Transportation Research Center (TRC) in East Liberty, Ohio, where he met his first wife, Darla Humphries. In 1981 Gary moved to Talladega, Alabama to work for Harley- Davidson Motor Company until 2009 and made many long-lasting friendships. After leaving Harley in 2009, Gary moved to Wheatland, Wyoming to enjoy retirement in 2010, and was joined by Leilani Benton in 2012 to spend the rest of his life together with her. Gary loved motorcycles, guns, fishing and hunting. In his younger days he road raced at Nelson Ledges, Ohio, Grattan Raceway in Michigan, Mid-Ohio Raceway in Lexington, Ohio and Talladega Grand Prix Raceway. He was a member of the NRA, AMA and the Boy Scouts. After moving to Wheatland, Gary joined the Platte County Shooting Association and was a Board member at the time of his passing. Survivors include his partner Leilani, his sister Susan and husband Jay Cowan of Wheatland, a nephew Jason and wife Jamie Cowan of Bismarck, North Dakota, a nephew Levi and wife Sarah Cowan of Casper, a niece Haley Cowan of Sunnyvale, Texas and five great nephews and one great niece. Gary requested that no formal services be held. Cremation has taken place with the scattering of his ashes to take place later this year. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Gary's name to the Platte County Shooting Association, P.O. Box 1324, Wheatland, WY 82201.
