Henry Walter "Hank" Jones

Henry (Hank) Walter Jones, 80, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 29, 2023 at Regional Medical Center. Hank was born on April 19, 1943 in Talladega, Alabama to Charles Richard Jones, Sr. and Dorothy (Dolly) Elizabeth Jones. He graduated from Talladega High School in 1961. After working for Wright's Drug Store in Talladega, he applied to Auburn University School of Pharmacy. He played baseball for Auburn, was a manager for the Auburn football team, and played intramural sports whenever he could. He received his Pharmacy Degree in 1969 and loved everything about Auburn his whole life. While at Auburn, he met and married his wife of 55 years, Joanna Taylor Jones. For 50 years, Hank and Joanna have made their home in Saks. During his pharmacy career he worked for Wikles Drug, Big B, and CVS. For 17 years he owned and operated Lenlock Drugs in Anniston. After selling the store Hank continued to work as a pharmacist until his retirement in 2007. He enjoyed his retirement helping Randy Law with the softball teams at Saks High School and Jacksonville High School. Hank is survived by his wife, Joanna; daughters, Shannon (Ben) Andrews, Jennifer (Matt) Clegg, and Susanna (Logan) Gilmore; and grandchildren, Brooke Andrews, Davis Andrews, Matthew Clegg, Brantley Clegg, and Taylor Gilmore. He is also survived by his caregiver, Mrs. Mary Finney, who lovingly took care of Hank for over 12 years. Hank also loved many other "children" just like his own - Blake Hamm, Sammy Muller, and Michael Muller - as well as all of the young adults who worked for him at the drugstore. Hank was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws W. Carl and LaVerne Taylor of Sylacauga, AL and his brother Charles (Charlie) R. Jones, Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC. The family is eternally grateful to all of those who helped care for Hank over the last 12 years especially Dr. Wilfredo Grana, Alicia Beal, Leigh Anne McCareeth, Amedisys Home Health, all of Hank's wonderful nurses, Mrs. Mary Bonds, and his amazing speech therapist, Shannon Hamm. Graveside services were held on Sunday, December 31, 2023, at 1:00pm at Anniston Memorial Gardens, 4000 US 431, Anniston, Alabama 36206. Pallbearers were Ben Andrews, Matt Clegg, Logan Gilmore, Davis Andrews, Matthew Clegg, Blake Hamm, Sammy Muller, and Michael Muller.
