Rachel Brown Obituary

Our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Rachel Beulah Brown left this world suddenly on January 9, 2023 at the age of 88. She was born to John and Joy Herring of Dallas, Texas. She graduated from Sunset High School and attended the University of North Texas where she studied early childhood education. She planned on teaching elementary school as she loved all children and had a gift of teaching all ages. Although the dream of being a school teacher never materialized, she was able to share her love of children by teaching Sunday school classes and volunteering as a scout leader many times throughout her life. Rachel grew up in a household of boys with three younger brothers, John David Herring of Seattle, Washington and Paul Herring of Denton, Texas. Their middle brother Thomas "Tommy" Herring beat them all to heaven in 2009. Rachel was the biological mother to three children, Dallas Powers-Haynes of Roanoke, Texas, Linda Kay Pritchett of Alexandria, Alabama and Russell "Rusty" Huffman who now lives in heaven. Rusty went to be with the Lord in 1984 and he and his mama are having quite a reunion now! Rachel's two grandchildren, James Bradley Pritchett (25) and Lindsey Nicole Pritchett (22) were the light of her life. They miss her and would even enjoy hearing her tell them to always make their beds again. Though some would say she had three children, all that know her might disagree Many "children" of all ages are proud to call her "Mama Rachel." She was always ready to lend a listening ear which invariably ended up with a powerful prayer to God on that person's behalf. It was always a joy watching the miracles show up after one of her prayers. Some say she seemed to have a direct line to heaven and it sure appeared that way. Rachel has gone to be with her Jesus and she is happy. She has lived her life with that goal in mind but those of us left behind feel a huge void in our lives now. We are only comforted by the knowledge we will see our beautiful "Mama Rachel" again someday. Please join us Sunday January 15th, 2023 at 2:30 pm at the NoAlan Venue Center located at 187 Angel Lake Road in Weaver, Alabama to celebrate her life and Homegoing.

Rachel was my step-mother but so much more than that. She captivated my heart with her loving acceptance and drew me close to Jesus. She was a wealth of knowledge and advice. She was always ready to listen, comfort, counsel and pray. I will miss her joy, laughter, and her positivity. She was uniquely beautiful and irreplaceable to me. I am praying for the family as I know that she will be greatly missed. We are all richer for having had her for this short time. I will see you in heaven sweet Rachel and rejoice loudly when you receive your crown!

We remember Rachel as a warm, loving person we knew from church. Such a sweet lady and example to all. God bless this family as they celebrate their mother & grandmother home.
