Rebecca Tolleson Obituary
Rebecca "Becky" Tolleson, age 73, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. Born in Heflin, Alabama on July 2nd, 1952 she was the beloved daughter of Bettye and George Tolleson and the cherished older sister of Ricky Tolleson. A proud graduate of Cleburne County High School, Becky earned her Bachelor of Science in Art Education from Jacksonville State University in 1975 and went on to study painting and jewelry at the Arrowmont School of Arts & Crafts in Tennessee. She dedicated her life to education and the arts, serving as a passionate and inspiring art teacher for over 25 years at Cleburne County Elementary School. Her teaching commitment extended beyond her home classroom in Heflin as she traveled to Ranburne, Hollis Crossroads, and Fruithurst bringing art programs to rural communities across Northeast Alabama. Becky also led the Future Problem Solvers program at Cleburne County, guiding her students to win the State Competition and advance to Nationals in consecutive years-a testament to her leadership and belief in the power and hope of young minds. After retiring from Cleburne County, Becky continued to share her love of art at Gadsden State Community College and Faith Christian High School until her retirement in 2001. Beyond teaching, Becky found joy in painting, jewelry making, gardening, pottery, traveling, music, and a good cup of hot tea with friends. She was a devoted mother, a nurturing mentor, motivator, and a radiant presence in the lives of all who knew her. Deeply rooted in her faith, Becky carried a profound understanding of Christ that guided her kindness, strengthened her community, and comforted those around her. A celebration of her life will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church in Anniston, Alabama on Saturday, December 6th, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM CST, led by Pastor Erik McDaniel. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend. She is survived by her loving children: sons Evan and Eliot, and stepdaughters Claudia and Taylor. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Winnie Ray, Sunny Beck, Emma, Charlie, Ryan, Hank, Parker and John Thomas; and great grandchildren: Bennett and Hampton. Becky's legacy lives on in the hearts of her family, her students, and the communities she touched with her art, compassion, and unwavering spirit. She would want us to proceed and be bold!
