Vergie Mae Ware Robinson's journey of 85 years on this earth was a true testament to love, faith, compassion, and resilience. She was born on March 10, 1940, to the late Virgil Lee Ware and Evelyn Jones Woodard Bowers and grew up under the loving guidance of her bonus mother, Louise Bush Ware. Vergie, lovingly known as "Celie", was educated in the Anniston City Schools system in Anniston, Alabama and graduated from Cobb Avenue High School in 1958. She continued her education at Selma University in Selma, Alabama from 1960 to 1962, earning her Associate of Arts degree in Education. Her passion for learning eventually led her to San Francisco State University in San Francisco, California from 1974 to 1981, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics and a Master of Science degree in School Counseling. Vergie's dedication to learning paved the way for a fruitful and dedicated journey in counseling. In 1995, she retired from a fulfilling career in early childhood education and adult mental health counseling programs. Her professional life reflected her nurturing spirit and her deep commitment to guiding others toward growth, healing, and opportunity. Vergie was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Eugene James Robinson. Together, they shared 64 beautiful years of marriage marked by devotion, partnership, and enduring love. This union was blessed with three beautiful children. She was a proud and loving mother to, Anthony "Tony" Robinson, Andreal "Ernie" Robinson (Lolita), and Alfie Robinson Brown (Eddie). Her greatest joy was being Grandmother to Candace Robinson, Joshua Robinson, Gideon Robinson, Morgan Robinson, Aliyah Brown, and Ethan Robinson, each of whom she loved dearly and supported wholeheartedly. She found immense joy in loving and watching her grandchildren grow. After spending 35 years living in Illinois, California, North Carolina, and Florida, Vergie and her husband returned home to Oxford, Alabama in 2001, where they enjoyed being closer to family and lifelong friends. Vergie was a faithful member of Moore Avenue Church of Christ. In 2003, she obeyed the Gospel, deepening her commitment to her faith and her walk with the Lord. Her spiritual life was a cornerstone of her character and legacy. She was also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and maintained active involvement with the Cobb Avenue High School Alumni organization. Vergie's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with love for traveling, gardening, scrapbooking, and collecting African American and African artifacts. Vergie believed wholeheartedly in the transformative power of education. Continuing her dedication to education, The Eugene and Vergie Robinson Educational Scholarship, a program created to provide annual financial assistance to a deserving high school student, was founded in 2025 by their granddaughter Candace Robinson. This scholarship stands as a lasting testament to her desire to invest in future generations and uplift the community. On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, Vergie M. Robinson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, answered the Master's call and entered eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Louise Ware and Evelyn Bowers and her siblings, Alfred Curry, Mary Frances Newell, Clyde Woodard, Andrew Woodard, Buck Edmondson, Wilbur Edmondson, Billy Woodard, and Katherine Woodard. Vergie M. Robinson leaves behind a legacy of love and fond memories to be cherished forever by her devoted husband, Eugene Robinson; her children and their spouses; her beloved grandchildren; siblings, Clark (Hazel) Ware, Doris (Larry) Cunningham, Mildred Whitfield, and Michael (Betty) Ware; and a host of extended family members and dear friends whose lives were richly blessed by her presence. As we gather to reflect on the beautiful life of Vergie Robinson, let us remember her unwavering spirit, the love she radiated, and her commitment to nurturing the minds and hearts of those around her. Her legacy will forever live on in the lives she touched. S.M. Goodson Funeral Home & Crematory 830 Noble Street Anniston, AL Sheffton M. Goodson 256-237-9771 www.smgoodson.com
