ANTHONY JOSEPH "AJ" PURDOM
AGE: 4 PITTSFIELD, MA
Anthony Joseph "AJ" Purdom, 4, passed away suddenly on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009 at the Berkshire Medical Center. The son of Ryan V. Purdom and Christen M. Goodrich, he was born July 8, 2005 in Voorhees, NJ. His favorite pastimes included playing with Geo-Tracks, Thomas the Train, building puzzles, coloring, and pretending to be Spiderman. He brought joy and happiness to all he came around. He will always be loved and will be deeply missed.
AJ is survived by his parents, Ryan Purdom of Pittsfield, MA and Christen Goodrich of Dalton, MA; Grandparents, Michael & Mary Dunn of Williamstown, MA; Robert & Robin Goodrich of Broadalbin, NY; John & Kathleen Purdom of Middletown, NJ; Aunt, Nicole Purdom of Middletown NJ; Uncles, Connor & Taylor Dunn of Williamstown, MA; Godparents, Philip Visaggio of Jackson, NJ & Karen Bodnar-Sinopoli of Pittsfield, MA; special friends, great aunts & uncles, cousins & friends in Massachusetts, New Jersey & Maryland.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday September 10, 2009 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Devanny-Conron Funeral Home, 40 Maplewood Avenue, Pittsfield, MA. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 11, 2009 at 9:00 A. M. from the funeral home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Marks Roman Catholic Church, 400 West St., Pittsfield, MA with the Rev. John C. Salatino, pastor officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Make a Wish Foundation in care of the funeral home.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Although we only share smiles and hellos in passing. I truely and deeply feel your pain. 8 years ago I lost my 3 and 1/2 year old daughter and 2 years ago we lost our son Brody's itendical twin. I will always remember when AJ came over to my porch, it was Halloween time and saw the flying bat I had on my porch and I asked him if he wanted it and he said yes, I looked at you for your approval and you said yes. He was just so happy to get that bat I will never forget that moment. Christen I know it is hard for you, I also lost my little boy. Just remember all the beautiful memories you have with him, and they will get you through this.

I am so very sorry on the loss of your little angel AJ. I will always remember when you all were out in front of the yard here playing in the leaves and him just having a ball falling in the pile you raked up for him. I will never forget the precious memories I have of the one day I was lucky enough to have spent with AJ, just one week ago. He held my hand through out the morning, played in the sand box with me, eat lunch beside me and was the kindest, friendliest, most gentle little boy. I am a teacher, and the mother of a two year old, at the daycare center that AJ attended. I am so sorry for your loss and hope that you can find some comfort in sharing the many wonderful memories that you have of him in the short time that he was here with us on this earth. I wish there was something that I could do to ease your pain.

Ryan and Christen, AJ was a new student in my daughter McKenna's class at Maple Hill. Even though he just started, she had mentioned him to me and one of the lead teachers Christine, had described how McKenna was helping him adjust to his new environment. I am so very sorry for your loss.
