August Hermanni Obituary
AGE: 93 • Beachwood
August L. Hermanni Jr., 93, of Beachwood, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in Paterson, he's been a resident of Beachwood since 1950. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard having served in WW II. Gus had a childhood dream of becoming a fireman and was a member of the Beachwood Fire Dept. in the early 1950's until his appointment as Fire Chief at the Lakehurst Naval Air Station in 1958. He was the recipient of numerous awards and worked there until his retirement in 1976. He also worked as a training Officer for the Toms River Fire Dept. #2.
Gus was predeceased by his wife, Anne, his daughter-in-law Dorothy and his brother Harold. He is survived by two sons, Robert L. and Donna Hermanni of Whiting and August L. Hermanni III of Beachwood; a daughter, Carol A. Bautiste and Robert of Cresco, PA; a sister-in-law, Edith Bosschoart of NM. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great- grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service to be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27 at the chapel at the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the charity of one's own choice. Arrangements are being handled by Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Toms River. So sorry for the loss of your father and grandfather. We were so blessed to have such a good neighbor and even better friend live behind us. He always remembered us at Christmas with his hand written card when so many people have stopped sending cards. His dear wife, Anne,his boys,daughter, grandkids were the joy of his life.
