I was deeply saddened in learning of your loss. I fondly remember Mr. Beekman teaching me how to swim at the Andrew Jackson H.S. pool along with many other children from St. Pascal Baylon Elementary School. He was one of the most active and influential role models to the St. Pascal Baylon Elementary and High School student body during that time. My deepest sympathy.

Dear Mrs. Beekman, Bernie and Arthur. Words cannot describe just how proud I am to have known Mr. Beekman. At 46 years old I can still remember as if it were yesterday getting in the chiefs car and being driven to Incarnation. Another founding member of St. Pascal Baylon Holy Name Society has entered heaven. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Love always Jeff McP. 631-666-3831

Mrs. Beekman, Bernadette, Artie;
I only learned today, from Jeff that Gus passed. I couldn't not leave a note. My memories of 198th street are wrapped with fondness and not a small part was from knowing your family. I can recall walking down the block and that passing the "Beekmans" was almost always accompanied by a big hello from someone. In fact walking past most every home on 198th street had the same result. It was a great place to live it was the place that helped shape me into the man I have become. It was an honor and a pleasure to know Gus and you all. May he rest in Heaven knowing that he left a positive impression on so many people. Vivian and I will keep you all in our prayers; and I hope that your memories of life on 198th are a wonderful as are mine. A great man led a wonderful family; and was a credit to the parish and community as well as the City of New York. May he rest in peace with his boys.

Augustus A. Beekman was an inspiration to all firefighters who served under his command as Fire Commissioner of the New York Fire Department. During his entire career, Commissioner Beekman displayed integrity, professionalism and devotion to the FDNY that he was so fond of and who loved him in return. He will be remembered by the 100's of young firefighters who he mentored during his long career. Commissioner Beekman will never be forgotten.

Please accept my deepest sympathy on the passing of your beloved father. I am sure that you, your mother and sister will miss him deeply. I never had the honor of knowing your father, but honor, a sense of duty and respect for others is passed on to our offspring, and in that way I know he was truely a great man.
