I knew Barry through my daughter Tina who loved to be in his company. Playing music together in a
special way healed them both. My heart is heavy
with his passing.
My sincere condolences to his family.
Sincerely Mrs. Noreen Fernandes

One of Barry's favorite childhood books is Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney. It is the story of a young girl who sought a way to make the world more beautiful and did so by scattering lupine seeds wherever she traveled. Barry made our corner of the world beautiful every day. He generously shared his gifts of music and laughter with his students and with those of us who were privileged to be counted among his friends and colleagues. Every day he came to work with a smile on his face and a spring in his step. For those of us who saw him daily, his absence is profound. Barry taught us that the most important part of life is the people in it. Let's choose to be better for having known him and in the spring, scatter lupine seeds in your garden.

Barry was a light for everyone who knew him, the guy who could make you laugh and lift you up no matter what, the guy you could get deep with. I am so blessed to have known him and to have shared magical moments with him. He'll be in my heart forever. My condolences to his family and to his friends who grieve this loss.

When I moved to Little Silver for 3rd grade, Barry was the first kid I met since we lived on the same street. Of course we would get in trouble together. I think in 4th grade on Day 1 we sat next to each other and the teacher pretty much broke up the party by 815am. They were onto us. He was my best friend from childhood, and this is heart breaking news to me and my family. The guy had a great heart, fun personality, and anyone who knows him will miss him. My heart goes out to Brad, Pete and Chloe.

I am shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of my old high school friend, Barry. I knew Barry well at Red Bank Regional having played soccer alongside him for 3 years. He was a absolutely lightning fast left-footed forward, and we shared some fantastic times and some "success" on the soccer field. Barry was a regular at our lunch table, along with some other soccer players and friends. To say Barry was funny or a comedian is a huge understatement. His ever present huge grin, his fantastic laugh, his amazing impressions, his wild, wavy, blonde hair, and his always positive demeanor was always entertaining and infectious. If you were lucky enough to hear Barry impersonate his beloved Jim Morrison or Robert Plant, or hear him just sing anything...then you would recognize the talent Barry possessed. Rest in Peace, Barry. The world will certainly miss you.
