Bishop Simmons Obituary
AGE: 59 • Monroe Township
Bishop Elzo Charles Simmons, of Monroe Township, died Saturday, April 23, 2011, at St. Peters University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Englishtown, where he lived all of his childhood until moving to Monroe Township in 2007. Bishop Simmons was the Overseer for The Saints Of God's Ministries, Freehold. He received his PhD in Religious Education from the Light House Christian College. He was well-equipped to teach the word of God having educated himself by receiving a total of three Doctrine's, two Master's and two PhD degrees in Religious Education.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Cecil Simmons Sr.; and his sister, Evangelist Kathryn Simmons Woolfolk. Surviving are his loving wife, Carmen Simmons; one daughter, Christina Mayes (Malcom) of New Brunswick; his mother, Rev. Kathryn Simmons of Manalapan; three sisters, Juanita Phoenix of Eatontown, Vanessa Ingram of New Castle, Del., and Lasha Simmons of Manalapan; six brothers, Minister Vernon Simmons of Stafford, Va., Rev. Cecil Simmons Jr. of Wilmington, Del., Leon of Long Branch, Eric of Roselle, Deacon Melvin Simmons of North Brunswick, and Minister Elder Garrett Simmons of Linden.
The viewing will be from 8 a.m. Saturday, April 30 until the services at 10 a.m. at the Mt. Ararat Missionary Baptist Church, 20 State St., Monroe Township, (formerly Jamesburg). Burial will be at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent. Arrangements are by Anderson Funeral Service, New Brunswick.

To the Simmons Family, my thoughts and prayers are with you all. I am BLESSED to have been able to reconnect with Elzo in recent years ... He was still my LOVING Cousin ... We shared many experiences from our past, but more importantly we were also able to share our FAITH in our Lord and Savior ... May the Peace of God reign in all our lives.

Watching you take your journey home was hard, but knowing that you have check into a beautiful Mansion where the streets are made of gold allows my spirit to be at rest.
