Carl Nikodem Obituary

Carl R. Nikodem

Brick, NJ - Carl Robert Nikodem, age 34, passed away from a rare heart condition on January 20, 2021. Born in Long Branch, NJ on September 10, 1986 to Donna (DelSordo) and Robert F. Nikodem. Carl spent the first 15 years of his life growing up in Toms River where he loved surfing and playing sports and never missed a year playing for PopWarner Angels football. He was an amazing trick skater and won many competitions as a boy. His family relocated to Pennsylvania where Carl graduated from Wallenpaupack area HS where he met his love of his life Maya Rogers. He later studied Environmental Resource Management in college. He had a love for music, gardening, fishing, good food, but especially loved spending time with his family and his beloved son, Arlo. His son filled his life with abounding joy and happiness. His sense of humor and desire to live life to the fullest drew people to him, and he leaves behind many friends. Carl knew all the answers to all your questions and the best of everything. He brought joy into the lives of all who knew him. He had a beautiful spirit, and we were blessed to have him in our lives. Carl is survived by his son, Arlo, his sisters, Denise Nikodem and Melissa (Rodriguez) Nikodem, his mother, Donna Nikodem, Ted Doherty, his stepdad, niece, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, his dog, Brooklyn and Maya Rogers, his love of his life. A mass will be held on Friday, February 12 at 10am at St Dominic's catholic church in Brick. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Carl was my friend in Elementary and Middle School. He had a special way of making people laugh. He gave me a lot of joy during our friendship. Although we lost touch after that, I can only imagine he continued to spread that same laughter and joy to everyone he came in contact with. I have vivid memories of him smiling and giggling as we made harmless mischief in the back of Mrs. Diorios geography class. I am grateful for these memories and our friendship. Thank you Carl, I'll never forget you.

I went to elementary school with Carl. I was just looking through old photos and saw a scanned picture of some of my friends in 6th grade, saw Carl, and decided to look him up on Facebook. I was so shocked and sad to instead find an obituary. I want his friends and family to know that even as an 11 year old boy, he made a lasting impression on me and I’ll remember him fondly ♥

Carl was such a great guy. We will miss his smile and laughter. If you spent time with him then you were most likely smiling the whole time. It is such a shame he had to leave us all behind. Aunt Donna, Uncle Ted, Denise, Melissa, and Arlo we hope you all find strength and comfort in God during this difficult time. We love you.
