Carl Johnathan Simms, Sr., 49, of Pittsburgh, PA, formerly of Red Bank, NJ, died on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Carl was born on December 14, 1961 in Long Branch, NJ to the late Milton and Jessie Simms. He attended school in Red Bank and graduated from Red Bank Regional High School in Little Silver, NJ. Carl entered the USMC in June of 1980. He served our country for almost 22 years. He retired with an honorable discharge; Gunnery Sgt. Carl Simms received many medals of Honor. Carl is a former member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church of Red Bank where he served as an Acolyte for many years.

Carl was predeceased by his brother, Milton Jr. in March 2005. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Loretta Simms, and his beautiful children Carl Jr., Carnell, Lila, Jessiann Simms of Whitaker, PA and Nigel, Niesha, and Nira Simms and two beautiful grandchildren Nakai Gregory and Namir Green from Virginia Beach, VA.; his sister, Marianne Harrell and nephew Terrance of Neptune, NJ, an aunt Marie Richardson of Wanamassa, NJ, and uncle Paul Richardson of Allenwood, NJ. A niece that he cherished like it was his own daughter Jessica Vanhorn and her children Tajae and Teja Botz of Allentown, PA .Sister-n-law Lillie Copeland of West Mifflin, PA, and brother in law Algie Copeland, Jr. of Pittsburgh, PA; nieces Jasmine ,Jalyne, Jordanais, Javion, and Julion; nephews Armontti, Artesian, and Aramis Copeland of West Mifflin,PA. A viewing will be held from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Monday at Childs Funeral Home, 364 Shrewsbury Ave. Red Bank, NJ. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 A.M., immediately after the viewing hour. Interment will be held at Brigadier General Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
