AGE: 92 • River Plaza

Christopher "Chris" Columbus Joseph DeFilippo, 92 of River Plaza section of Middletown passed away peacefully Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Riverview Medical Center. Born to Vincent and Marie DeFilippo, Italian immigrants on October 12, 1922 (Columbus Day) in Perth Amboy. He moved to Red Bank where he lived before moving to Middletown in 1949. Chris proudly served his country during WWII in the US Coast Guard. Shortly after the war he married his beloved wife and together they opened a tiny deli in 1949, that became Chris's Deli still in business after 65 years. Chris loved the water and boating and eventually opened the River Plaza Marina. Chris loved people and people were drawn to him, his wit, stories of the day gone by and laughs. He will be missed and remembered by many.

Chris was predeceased by his Parents, his three brothers Anthony, Peter and Frank DeFilippo (all WWII veterans), a sister Rose Marass. His biggest loss was his wife of 60 years Anne Sweel DeFilippo in June 21, 2010. He truly never recovered. We'll grieve the loss, but find joy that mom and dad are together again and all who passed before. Amen

He is is survived by his daughter, Christine A. Tramitz of River Plaza, a son, Robert DeFilippo; two grandchildren, Hunter and Alexis; two sisters, Lucy Dyal of Tampa, Fl and Josephine Green of Red Bank. He is also survived by many dear nieces, nephews, friends and the Marina Boys.
