Christopher Rumph Obituary

Christopher Charles Rumph

AGE: 65 • Tinton Falls

Christopher Charles Rumph was born on August 1, 1952 and passed away peacefully on September 22, 2017. Chris was a humble, hilarious, and giving man. He left the physical world in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his wife and children after a courageous fight against cancer over the last four years.

Chris grew up in Middletown, NJ amongst his four siblings, Robin, Carolyn, Benny, and Kim. Chris married his high school sweetheart, Andrea (Dede) Fischette. They were married for 44 blissful years. Dede has always been a saint for putting up with his wild side. He captured her attention with his charming demeanor and devilish blue eyes. They raised five unique children who are successful in their own right. Amanda and son in law, Paul McGrade, Andrew, Christopher and daughter in law Caitlin, Jonathan and Abigail continue to spread his light to the world. Chris was blessed with five grandchildren, Peter, Aubrey, and Addison McGrade, Isla and Evie Rumph, whom he taught to appreciate nature, dessert and the little things in life.

Chris started building houses as a teenager from the ground up. He was a master at his craft and built beautiful homes in Rumson, Fair Haven, Middletown and Tinton Falls. His "happy yellow homes" radiate warm wishes for every family that resides within his visions. Chris considered himself the richest person in the world. He measured his wealth by his greatest accomplishment, his family.

Chris was a contractor by trade but his true vocation was giving to others. Chris was extremely generous and always provided optimistic insight. He would gladly give you the shirt off his back but more his style would be giving you the steak off his plate. The only thing he'd ask for in return was a response of "this is the best steak I ever had." Chris was known for his home cooked meals and the belief that everyone deserved the best. Chris and his family volunteered in the "Soup D'Shore" kitchen at the Saint Luke's Methodist Church for over ten years. He helped provide many meals to people, but most importantly he made friends along the way. Chris spent many years renovating orphanages in Mexico and built homes for a community in the Dominican Republic who consider him their "American family".

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Tuesday, September 26th from 5-8pm at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St, Red Bank, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Chris' remembrance to Soup D'Shore c/o St. Luke's Methodist Church, 535 Broadway, Long Branch, NJ 07740.

I really wish i had met Chris sooner than I did. He became my stepbrother when we were in our 40s ! By then we had familys of our own, and only saw each other on some holidays, at our parents house. Chris was the kindest person, EVER !! When I was in Florida and my Dad was in Hospice, Chris was there . Chris took me for walks and INSISTED on buying me little things from the local stores near the bay. He helped me laugh when my dads death was imminent , Chris had a way of making things seem like they were OK . I miss Chris a lot , and I loved it when he was in the area for work and stopped in the shop for a quick HI . God bless Him and Deede and his whole family.

As a step brother who i met when we were already adults, i have to say Chris was the kindest most generous man i ever met. He was so giving of himself. When my fathers death was imminent , Chris was there with me , keeping my spirits up with his jokes and just keeping me busy, showing me the sights in Tarpon Springs. i am extremely saddened by his death. I wish we could have spent more time together. He was a great support to me in my time of need. , and i just found out about all the wonderful things he has done for so many people. Rest in peace, Chris. you are missed. DeeDee.

To the entire Rumph family,
I am terribly saddened by the loss of Chris. He was a wonderful person - kind, loving, generous, warm, giving, and very very funny! When I picture him, I picture him laughing - maybe at me, maybe at Heather, maybe at one of his own jokes... but regardless, he is laughing. When I came to visit a few years ago, my husband was amazed at how he right away handed me his car keys and told me to show him around where I grew up. He was always like that - lending whatever he had, giving as much as he could, and instilling those values in his children as well. I'm sure he's making everyone laugh up there. Amanda, if you feel any strange pranks in the future - you know where they're coming from :). Mr. R - I will always remember you as a 2nd dad, thank you for being such a great role model.
Rest In Peace.

Dearest Dede, Amanda, and family,
I was truly at a loss for words when Tammy told me the sad news about the loss of Chris. Although it has been years since we last spoke (since we moved to the other side of the world) I still remember him so clearly - his jokes, his happy outlook on life, and his wonderful parenting. He and your entire family were very much a part of our days in Fair Haven, and we will always hold him dear in our hearts. In Hebrew we say "May you never know sorrow" as our form of condolence, and I mean that literally for you. He lived a wonderful life and has done so much for others, and raised such a wonderful family. Please, may you not know sorrow.
All of our love,
Katie and Uzi Koren
