Dennis Lafferty Obituary

Dennis Michael Lafferty

Brielle - Dennis Michael Lafferty, 50, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 after a courageous battle with ALS.

Dennis was born and raised in Buffalo, NY where he excelled at track and football. Football led him to Columbia University where he later also earned his MBA. He had a notable career on Wall Street, never forgetting his roots and becoming the trusted, intelligent and humble partner to many people within the Distressed Credit community. He led trading teams at Deutsche Bank and Goldman Sachs, but would always say his biggest success was his family.

He met his wife, Ellen, in the elevator at work and boasted "by the time we got to the first floor, we knew." They were married the following year and together with their children lived in Manhattan and later Brooklyn, spending weekends and summers at the shore in Manasquan, NJ, before making Brielle their home.

He was a beloved son, brother and uncle and everyone's favorite guy.

To those that knew him, it was immediately obvious that Dennis was an incredibly present father, putting his family above all else and cherishing every minute with his children. He lived for family time, movie nights, watching them play sports, and supporting their every interest. He was happiest on a ski slope or out on his boat with family and friends. He cherished time with his and Ellen's extended families, reveling in hosting everyone for memorable weekends and the best parties. In addition to his family, he treasured his many, many friendships across a wide-range of social circles. And, although his family remained in Buffalo, they knew all of his friends from New York City.

Dennis was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and forever proud of his hometown. He never took any of his success for granted and lived life with his family to the fullest enjoying travel, fishing, snowboarding, and music.

Dennis is survived by his devoted wife of 13 years, Ellen Lafferty (nee Winkler); his 4 beloved children, Audrey, Emily, Liam, and Ben; his parents, Raymond Lafferty and his wife Kyle of Cheektowaga, NY, and Mary Cone and her husband Jim of Lancaster, NY; his brother, Edward Lafferty of Lancaster, NY; his 2 sisters, Katie Tonsoline of Lancaster, NY, and Riane Lafferty of Buffalo, NY, and his 7 nieces & nephews. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 16, 2021 from 4pm to 8pm at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Rd. at Rt. 70, Brick, NJ 08724. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday 10:30am at St. Denis Church, 90 Union Ave., Manasquan, NJ 08736. Interment will be held in Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.

In lieu of flowers the family specifically requests donations be made to Compassionate Care ALS https://ccals.org/in_memory_of/dennis-lafferty/ or ALS Research at the Healey Center for ALS at Mass General https://tackleALS.com/team/change-als .
