Doris Kane Obituary
AGE: 70 • Chico, CA
Doris Kane, 70, of Chico California, former long time resident of Elm Court in Waldwick passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011 of respiratory failure surrounded by her children. Born in Paterson to Katherine and Albert Van Walleghem, Doris was a beloved mother of Lee Ann (Ferrone), Scott (Coppola), and Donny Kane and adored grandmother (Jaja) of Chelsea, Gabrielle, Lauren, Justin, Taylor and Joshua.
Graduate of William Paterson University, Doris taught middle school math at Eric S. Smith school in Ramsey for 35 years. Doris was a champion for individuals who have special needs and served for 10 years as the area director for Special Olympics. Doris was known for her generosity in spirit and love of Seaside Park. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Jack, infant sister, Rose and survived by sister, Kathy (Blackowski).
Friends of the family are invited to attend a celebration of her life on Friday, Sept. 23rd at McLoone's Pier house, Long Branch from 11am-3pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a memorial fund for the adoption of children who have Down Syndrome (Bethany Christian Services, P.O. Box 294, Grand Rapids, MI, 49501-0294. Note in memo line, Doris Kane Fund).

Your mom was a great person!! If it was not her getting in special olympics I don't know where i would be today.. Thank you doris!! My prayers will you all..

Doris was a great friend.She never let me give up on my self even though I wanted to. She gave me love and suport. Never put me down. She is the reason I am who I an today. I love her like a mother. I will miss her all the days of my life. Donny Leeann and scott. She is that angel on you sholder now and forever. I thank the lord for her and her being a big part of my life. Bye Doris till we meet again the that great place called haven
