Dorothy Koenig Obituary

Dorothy A. Koenig

AGE: 93 • Shrewsbury

Dorothy A. Koenig died peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Hoboken on July 6, 1920 to the late Julius and Emilie Kissel. She had been a resident of Shrewsbury for 63 years along with her devoted husband, George, who predeceased her in 2009. Together they shared 67 years of marriage. Dorothy graduated from Union Hill High School in Union City. She enjoyed working at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, NYC, while waiting for George to return from the war. She was an active parishioner of St. James Church in Red Bank for 63 years. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who chose to be a homemaker to care for her family. She was very active in all school activities and field trips. She served as a Cub Scout den mother and troop leader for Brownies and Girl Scouts. She also volunteered for many years at Marlboro Hospital, Riverview Hospital and Hospice. Mom lived a full and active life playing tennis into her seventies. She very much enjoyed her summer home with family on Lake Bomoseen, VT. Together with her husband she traveled the world. Mom will be remembered for her sincerity, patience, caring, support and sense of joy. She loved her family and friends unconditionally and always saw the good in other people.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Robert Koenig and wife Dorothy of Rumson; daughter, Pamela Marble and husband Jim of Venice Florida; daughter, Nancy Koenig of Belmar and son, Kenny Koenig and wife Karen of Oceanport; granddaughters, Christine Patella, Kimberly Sirianni, Samantha Bellissimo, Lauren Giannullo and Katherine Koenig; 5 great-grandchildren, Danny, Austin, Morgan, Ashley and Scotty, and life long best friend, Dottie Wild. She was predeceased by her brother, William.

To the Koenig Family, I am very sorry for your loss, she must have been a terrific mother. My parents, sister Jane and I were Rumson neighbors of Mr. And Mrs Kissel as children in the late 1940s-1950. I remember playing with Robert near the big tree by the kitchen.
