Douglas W. Simpson

AGE: 73 • Manchester

Douglas W. Simpson 73, of Renaissance, Manchester died suddenly on Wednesday, September 28 at his daughter's home in Deerfield, IL. He was employed for 27 years as District Superintendent with the New York City Department of Sanitation before retiring in 1982. He also served for 39 years in the U.S. Coast Guard, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant. He belonged to the Shields and the Golf Club of Renaissance. He was a parishioner of St John's Church, Lakehurst. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he resided in Middletown for 11 years, before moving to Manchester 15 years ago. He was a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Barbara Resta Simpson, a son William and his wife, Kim, 2 daughters and their husbands, Judy and Don Mason, Helen and Chris Barvels, 2 sisters, Barbara Tracey, Sharon Simpson and by 7 grandchildren, Briana, Alexa, Sophia, Donny, Gavin, Lyla, and Mia. Visitation is Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Oliverie Funeral Home, 2925 Ridgeway Road, Manchester. Funeral Liturgy is Friday at 10:00 am at St John's Parish Center Chapel, Lakehurst with interment to follow at the Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.
