Edward Mooney Obituary
AGE: 82 • Lavallette
Edward J. Mooney, 82, formerly of High Bridge, Bronx, NY, Somers, NY and Lavallette, NJ, died peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, surrounded by his family. He served his country during the Korean conflict, and retired from New York Telephone Company after a successful 40 year career. He was a lifetime member of the Pearl River Elks, and his community service encompassed service in local political arenas, and charitable institutions such as Meals on Wheels. Ed, also known as "Poppy" to his grandchildren, enjoyed his retirement at the beach at the Jersey shore where he spent many memorable times with family and friends. He is also remembered for his wry wit, sage advice, and love of poetry.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia; five children, Ed, Kerry Mooney, Greg, Tricia Miller, and Jennifer Giansante; as well as 10 grandchildren, Ryan and Shane Durkin, Gregory, Courtney and Maggie Mooney, Julie and Jessie Miller, and Aidan, Angus, and Ruby Giansante.
A memorial service will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28 at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home, Pearl River NY. A mass in celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29 at St. Aedens Church, Ehrhardt Road, Pearl River, NY. The Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 706 Grand Central Ave., Lavallette, is in charge of the arrangements.
