Eileen McGinty Obituary

Eileen Marie McGinty

Brick - Eileen McGinty, a retired high school English teacher and a former Dominican nun, passed away on January 19, 2021 after a second courageous battle with cancer.

Eileen completed her Bachelor's degree at Caldwell University while serving the Lord as a Sister of St. Dominic. After leaving the convent in 1970, Eileen continued teaching for a total of 37 years, during which time she earned a Master's degree from Trenton State University.

Eileen thoroughly enjoyed her thousands of students and they loved her. Decades after their graduation from high school, many of them continued sending her cards, texts and emails, telling her how much she meant to them as a teacher, role model and mentor. She cherished those messages.

Eileen loved time with her family, especially her Sunday afternoon calls with her brother, Jimmy. They amused one another by mimicking their mother's voice and discussing football (Notre Dame) and baseball (She as a Red Sox fan, he not so much...)

Eileen had a wicked sense of humor, and was a master of accents, as anyone can attest who ever heard her "Bromley" joke, done in upper crust British...

She was a passionate Democrat (delighted to vote early for Joe Biden); proud of her Irish heritage (all of her dear dogs had to have Irish names); an excellent player of scrabble, crossword puzzles and all word games, and Jeopardy!

In the final years of her life, in ever declining health, she remained gracious, uncomplaining, and grateful for every kindness.

Beloved wife, beautiful soul, may the angels welcome you to paradise in the ancient tongue of your people: Cead Mille Failte: A hundred thousand welcomes.

She is survived by her beloved wife, Annalyne B. Burke; her brother, James A. McGinty; her step-son, Matthew J. Burke; her step-daughter, Elizabeth Burke Lacy and her husband, Brian; her sister-in-law, Sandra Danforth; her three cherished grandchildren, Alexander, Eleanor and Maximilian Lacy; her cousins, Joseph and Nancy Riordan, Sharon Riordan Wight and William Wight; and Chappy.

Cremation was private and held under the direction of O'Brien Funeral Home, Brick. A Memorial Service will be held when it is safe to gather.

I was a classmate of Eileen’s when she entered the Caldwell Dominicans. She left a year before I did and we lost touch. I do clearly and fondly remember her great sense of humor, her great smile and laugh and her her intelligence. I am very sorry to hear of her passing and extend my condolences to her family.

She had a wonderful sense of humor. No matter what interchange you had with Eileen I would never end without at some point you having a good belly laugh.
A wonderful human being. Eileen you will be missed by many.
