Elizabeth Schneider Obituary
Neptune - Elizabeth A. (Betty) Schneider, 90, passed away on Monday, January, 18, 2021. A lifelong resident of Neptune, she graduated from Summerfield Elementary School in 1945 and Neptune High School in 1949, serving as secretary of her senior class and earning a varsity letter in cheerleading. Elizabeth married her husband Albert F. in November 1950 and had two children. She was very active in community affairs serving in various capacities over the years. Elizabeth was elected to the Neptune Township Board of Education in 1974 and served for 12 years, spending 6 years as President. She was elected to two terms on the Neptune Township Committee (1986 and 1993) and served as the first woman Mayor of Neptune in 1987 and again in 1994.
Honored as "Women of the Year" in 1987 by the Neptune Lions Club, she was an advocate for the construction of the Neptune Senior Center which is still recognized as one of the best Senior Center's in the State. Among the many organizations she volunteered her time to include: Neptune Senior Citizens Advisory Committee; Neptune Senior Club; Neptune Republican Club (serving as President in 1996-97); Hamilton United Methodist Church; Fraternal Order of Police; Neptune Township Republican County Committee (former Vice Chairperson); Township of Neptune Housing Authority (former Commissioner); Jersey Shore Medical Center Mental Health Committee (served as Chairperson in 1998); Monmouth County Federation of Republican Women; American Legion Auxiliary Post #346; and the Red and Black Booster Club.
Elizabeth is predeceased by her parents J. Larrison and Hazel Sutts, and brother Frank Sutts. Elizabeth is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Albert F. Schneider, son Albert L. and daughter-in-law Mary of Neptune; daughter Dawn A. Breining and son-in-law Harold A. Breining, Jr. of Cumberland, MD; 2 Grandchildren Heather E. and husband James L. Greer III, and Harold A. Breining III; 3 Great Grandchildren Alexander, Wyatt, and Grayson Greer and a host of nieces and nephews.
At the request of the family, all services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Neptune Senior Center, 1607 Highway 33, Neptune, NJ 07753. Condolences may be offered online at www.elyfuneralhome.com.
