Ernest E. Moore died peacefully in Chestertown, Maryland on Friday, August 30, 2013. He was 84. Mr. Moore was born in Brewer, Maine on December 6, 1928. He was the son of the late Ernest A. and H. Dorothy Moore. He graduated with honors from Brewer High School in 1947 where he was president of the sophomore and senior classes and captain of the senior football team. In 1951 he graduated from the University of Maine in Orono with a B.S. in chemical engineering. After college he was a process engineer with Merck & Co. in New Jersey; then served in the US Army Chemical Corps from 1953 to 1955 as a 5 P-2; spent 1 year as an environmental engineer with Mobil Oil Co. in New Jersey before joining Esso Research & Engineering Co. in New Jersey for 10 years (1956-1966) as a specialist in lube oil, chemicals and grease plants. His last 25 years before retirement in 1989 were with W.R. Grace & Co. in New York City corporate HQ as director of engineering services and technical administration and project manager of chemical plants construction. His professional career of 38 years took him to many locations in the US and foreign countries, sometimes with family on extended tours. After college he moved to NJ which became his home base during his working career. In 1994 he moved to Oxford, MD for 10 years where he was active in volunteer work for the community center, town planning board, museum, library, and Habitat for Humanity. In 2007 he moved to ACTS/Heron Point of Chestertown Retirement community as a resident and was active as a volunteer in Heron Point activities, water testing for Chester River Association and Lions Club vision program. He attended the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Rock Hall, MD.
Surviving him are three sons: Jeffrey A. Moore and his wife Kathy, Bradley E. Moore and Andrew T. Moore and his wife Marcia, a step-son Scott A. Hyer and his wife Patricia, five grandchildren: Brendan, Devin, Brianna, Hunter, and Drew and two step- grandchildren: Matthew and Meaghan. His surviving siblings in Maine are Ethel E. Pittman, Edith L Cushing, and John E. Moore.
Funeral arrangements will be handled by Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home in Chestertown, Maryland where a public viewing will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 11:00-12:00 (noon) at 130 Speer Road Chestertown, Md. 21620 where a funeral service will follow at 12:00. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Benevolent Fund of ACTS/Heron Point of Chestertown, 501 Campus Avenue, Chestertown, Maryland 21620.
