Francis John Sullivan

Francis John Sullivan, 74, of Manasquan, passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, with his wife by his side. Francis was born and raised in the New Brighton section of Staten Island, NY. He graduated St. Paul's Grammar School and St. Peter's High School, both New Brighton. Francis attended Wagner College and graduated from Staten Island Community College in 1958. He was active in the Army Reserve from 1962 to 1968. Francis was employed at Willowbrook State School research unit, Staten Island and Western Electric Equipment Engineering, Newark. Francis was a member of the New York City Fire Department from 1960 until 1996. At the time of his retirement, he was a Battalion Chief with Battalion 43, Coney Island, NY. Francis and his wife, Diana moved to the Eltingville section of Staten Island in 1963 where they raised their two daughters. Francis and his wife moved to Four Seasons, Manasquan in 1997. While living on Staten Island, Francis was a communicant of Holy Child R.C. Church, Eltingville and after his move St. Denis Church, Manasquan. He was a member of the Great Kills Swim Club and was active in the tennis program, Fire Chief's Association and the Fire Officers Association. Francis authored a book called "Adventures of the Pink Shovel and the Red Pail". He enjoyed playing golf, being on his computer and Irish dancing.
Francis was predeceased by five brothers. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Diana Rae (nee Lozier) Sullivan of Manasquan; two daughters, Susan Diana Sullivan of Falls Church, VA, and Carolyn Rae Sullivan Conte and her husband Anthony of Stanford, CT; three grandchildren, Katelyn Anne Conte, Jaclyn Rae Conte and Brooke Lyn Marie Conte. He is also survived by a brother, Joseph Siep of Toms River.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6 at Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7 at St. Martha's Church, 3800 Herbertsville Road, Point Pleasant. Entombment will follow at St. Catharine's Mausoleum, Sea Girt.
