Herbert D. Geffner, age 86, of Toms River, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012 at home. Born and raised in Vienna, Austria, he escaped the Nazis at the age of 13 and moved to Palestine. He served in the British Army, he was an early member of the Haganah, and fought in the War for Israeli Independence. He came to the United States in May of 1961 with his wife and children. He worked as a plant manager in the New York Metropolitan area and moved to Ocean County in 1984, where he was an active part of his children and grandchildren's lives.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years Sara in 2010. Surviving are his children Nava Taff and her husband Robert of Wall Township, Drs. Rami Geffner and his wife Patricia Tager of Toms River and Ron Geffner and his wife Susan of Pine Brook. Also surviving are eight grandchildren Larissa Taff, Dr. Jessica Taff, and Rachael, Zachary, Olivia, Victoria, Jonathan and Julianne Geffner.

Services were held on Monday, March 19th @ 4:30pm at B'Nai Israel Memorial Park, 1488 Old Freehold Road, Toms River, NJ 08753. Burial followed at B'Nai Israel Memorial Park.
