James J. Delaney, Jr.

AGE: 83 • formerly of Point Pleasant

James J. Delaney, Jr., 83, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011 at Royal Palm Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Vero Beach, FL. Born in Elizabeth, he moved to Point Pleasant in 1957 and raised his family there. Following his retirement as a union carpenter with Local 715, Elizabeth, he moved to Vero Beach 29 years ago. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a parishioner of St. Dominic's Church in Brick, St. Peter's Church in Point Pleasant Beach, and Holy Cross Catholic Church in FL, where he was also a member of VFW Post #10554, Fort Pierce, FL. He was a member of VFW Post # 8867 in Brick and Elks Lodge #1698 in Point Pleasant.

Surviving are his son, James J. Delaney III, (Bonnie) of Point Pleasant; two daughters, Diane DiNardo (Brian) of Warren, and Karen D. O'Brien (Russ) of Vero Beach, FL; two sisters, Gerri Boughrum of Port Saint Lucie, FL, and Joan Spitz of Rumson, and six grandchildren, Jim and Kelly Delaney, Brad and Kristin Ashley, and Katey and Kerry O'Brien. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Rose Marie Delaney.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9 a.m. Sept. 10 at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Old Squan Road, Brick. A Celebration of his Life will be held 11 a.m. at VFW Post # 4715, 603 St. Louis Ave., Point Pleasant Beach. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to VFW Post #4715.
