James August Laing

AGE: 92 • Lake Tranquility, Andover & family in Belmar

James August Laing, 92, of Lake Tranquility, Andover, peacefully passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2013, in Valley View Nursing Home, after a long illness, with his family at his side. James was born & raised in W. Orange and graduated high school in 1938. He then worked with "Thomas Edison" & Company as a clerk. From 1942-1945, James served as a Pharmacist Mate in the U.S. Navy on the USS Rescue. After the Navy, James worked as an accountant with Ankon Co., & Wallkill Valley Hospital and retired in the 1990s.

James is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret Schmieder Laing; their 6 children, David, Daniel and wife Kyle Rizzitello of Belmar, William, Susan Latham, James E., and Jonathan; his sister, Jean Madden, along with 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service & repast will be held Sunday, April 21, 2013 at The Spring Lake Hgts. Fire Dept. on 6th Ave. from 2 to 4 p.m. Repast immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of James A. Laing (father of SLH fireman Daniel Laing) to SLH Fire Co., and/or Christ Episcopal Church, 62 Main St., Newton, NJ.
