Janet E. Heller
Lakehurst - Janet E. Heller, 86, of Lakehurst, NJ, passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Community Medical Center in Toms River. Janet was born in Middletown, NY and lived in Oneonta, NY where she went to high school, college and met the love of her life, her high school sweetheart, Owen E. Heller. They married in 1956 and traveled extensively throughout Europe and the United States with the U.S. Navy until settling down in Lakehurst in 1969.
Janet worked as a bank manager at Lakehurst Naval Federal Credit Union for 25+ years, retiring in 1995. She was very active in many organizations. She was Treasurer of Lakehurst Historical Society for many years and a member of Christ Lutheran Church where she was President of Church Council, sang in the choir and participated in Luther Players Theatrical Group. Janet was a Girl Scouts Leader, very involved in Boy Scouts Troop 10 and went on to become a Trainer for the Jersey Shore Council, Whispering Pines District where she received the distinguished Beaver Award.
Janet enjoyed musical theater, especially attending Surflight Theater in Long Beach Island. She was an avid reader and loved to travel. Most of all, Janet loved her family and being a part of her grandchildren's lives. She will be dearly missed.
Janet is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Owen E. Heller; his son, Erich E. Heller and his wife Margaruitte; his daughter, Gretchen E. Heller and her husband Howard E. Haltiwanger, Jr.; 10 grandchildren, Erich John, Joshua, Nicole, Alexander, Danielle, Aaron, Dustin, Trey, Quinn and Sage; and 4 great-grandchildren, Evan, Elijah, Sebastian and Arabella. She is also survived by 2 nieces, Louise and Pam; 1 nephew, Gary; sister-in-law, Cher; and many other extended family members.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 from 4-8pm at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Rd. Whiting, NJ and on Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 9-11am at Christ Luther Church, 40 Schoolhouse Rd. Whiting, NJ. Funeral Services will begin at Christ Lutheran Church at 11am. Burial will follow at Brig. Gen Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
