Jean Hastings Obituary
AGE: 80 • Long Branch
Jean Mae Elizabeth Hastings, 80, of Long Branch went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 10, 2014. She was born in Newark to the late Bernice Logan Wright. She graduated from Long Branch High School in 1952. She was employed as a records clerk with the City of Long Branch. She was preceded in death by her mother Bernice Logan Wright, daughter Michele Hastings Downie, son Michael Hastings, sisters Barbara Stokes and Wanda Andino and her brother Victor Turner.
Surviving are her children Harold Hastings, Leslie Hill, Julia Hastings, Arlene Perozzi and Tanya Hastings, her sisters Jeanette Platts and Crystal Rogers and a brother Wayne Turner. Also left to cherish her memory are her nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at Second Baptist Church, 93 Liberty Street, Long Branch on Thursday, July 17, 2014 from 9-11 a.m. and the funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. The family invites you to write a letter of condolence at www.damianofuneralhome.com.

Dear Hasting family... Long Branch has lost a true advocate for both seniors and kids. She was truly the Lord's battle axe in confronting issues that effect Long Branch community in adverse manners. With her influence and stick-to-itiveness, Ms. Hastings helped get play grounds built in projects, save Wilbur Ray Community Center from being demolish, get politicians elected, and re-ignite interest in LB NAACP. Without inspiration and faith of Ms. Hastings Project Hope would have never existed nor would we have a Black Executive Director at LBHA in 90's. She will be sorely missed.

Dear Hastings Siblings...
Know that you are in our heart and prayers as we empathize with you during this most difficult season. Also, know that we share your grief. It was your mother, Jean, who stood so closely by our side in the recent passing of our dear mother. It was Jean who brought much comfort to us.
It is now that Jean has put on her wings and has taken her heavenly flight. No longer is she held prisoner to the handicaps that held her hostage in this ol' life. She has taken her "Mother Teresa" spirit and has joined the ever-growing Logan clan...over in the Glory Land.
Take your rest, our dear cousin Jean; you have honestly fought a good fight. Until we meet again, fare ye well...fare ye well.
