Jean Lieth Obituary

Jean (Colacurcio) von der Lieth

Monmouth Beach

Jean (Colacurcio) von der Lieth of Monmouth Beach, passed away peacefully in the morning hours of Thursday, May 21, 2015. She was four days shy of her 86th birthday.

She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Louise Colacurcio; her beloved son, Paul who passed away in 1960 and her daughter-in-law, Katie P. von der Lieth, who passed away in December, 2014. Jean is survived by her loving children, John and Julie von der Lieth of Greenville, SC, Lynne von der Lieth of Monmouth Beach, Thomas von der Lieth of Natick, MA, and Jane and John Hayes of Fair Haven. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Lou McManus of Florham Park, and many nieces and nephews. One of Jean's greatest joys was being a grandmother. She leaves behind James and Lily von der Lieth, Jack and Maggie Hayes and Jack von der Lieth. She loved them all to the moon and back.

Jean was born and raised in Jersey City. She moved to the Jersey Shore with her husband, Jack in the early 1950s, eventually settling in Rumson, where her children were raised.

Jean was as artistic as she was musical. She loved to sing, play the piano and dance and was affectionately known as "Jean, Jean the dancing machine" by her closest friends. Decorating and decoupaging was another passion and she did so with style and flare, much like Jean herself. Jean loved to read. She worked at Mr. Paperback and Barnes & Noble where she received great pleasure in recommending her favorite authors. Time spent on the beach in Sea Bright, NJ with family and friends will always be treasured.

Jean possessed a youthful spirit and throughout her life made friends with people of all ages. She will truly be missed by those people she touched with her warmth, kindness, great sense of humor and beautiful smile.

A special thank you to the Jersey Shore Center and Barnabas Health Hospice in Eatontown, NJ where Jean spent the last ten months of her life. Her family will be forever grateful for the love and care she received during her stay.

There will be a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of the Nativity, 180 Ridge Rd, Fair Haven, NJ on June 13, 2015. A private burial service will follow at a later date. If you would like to make a donation in Jean's name, contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online at www. StJude.org.

Thinking about Jean and all her wonderful, devoted children and grandchildren today. Wish I could have been with you all at the mass and celebration of her wonderful life. Jean was a brilliant, creative, kind force in my life -- I will miss her and think of her often! Love to all!!

I'm sorry to hear this Tom. My condolences. I remember your mom was always very nice to me when I was a little kid. The first time I ever had fried zucchini blossoms was when your mom was making a batch for everyone one summer afternoon back in the early 1960's on Sailers Way. It was the first time I ever had them and thought it so strange at the time(fried flowers?! what?!), but they were soooooo good!
