Joan Dolores Amend

AGE: 85 • Sea Girt

Joan Dolores Amend, 85, of Sea Girt, passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at Manor- By-The-Sea, Ocean Grove. Born and raised in South Orange, Miss Amend summered in Sea Girt before moving there full time in 1981. She graduated from Saint Elizabeth College in Convent Station and earned her Master's Degree from Seton Hall University. She was a Kindergarten Teacher at the Salem Drive Elementary School in Whippany, NJ for 32 years from 1956 until her retirement in 1988. Joan was a parishioner of St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church, Sea Girt, where she was a member of the parish's Altar Rosary Society. A talented sewer, she also loved knitting on her front porch.

Joan was predeceased by her parents, George Peter and Marie Reilly Amend; and her brothers, George and Sanford Amend. She is survived by her sisters, Jean A. McCabe, Sea Girt, and Kathleen A. Gilligan, Sea Girt. She is also survived by nine loving nieces and nephews, 14 grandnieces and nephews; and six great-grandnieces and nephews. She will be missed.

Friends are invited to visit from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20 at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35, Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21, 2011 at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 215 Crescent Parkway, Sea Girt. Interment will be in St. Catharine Cemetery, Wall.
