Joey Hoffman Obituary

The memorial service for Joey Hoffman will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview, with Pastor Dale Kohrs officiating. Burial will be in the Elgin Cemetery in Elgin.

Joey Ray Hoffman, 49 years young, of Millville, passed away Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, at Mayo Clinic Hospital-Rochester, Saint Marys Campus, from a cerebral subarachnoid hemorrhage and a stroke.

Joey was born Sunday, Sept. 26, 1965, in Rochester, to Joseph "Joe" and Dollie (Plank) Hoffman. Joey attended elementary and high school at Elgin-Millville graduating from Elgin-Millville High School in 1984. He went on to meat cutting school at Pipestone AVTI and graduated in 1986. On Sept. 19, 1987, he married Julie Buck at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview. They later divorced in November 2006. Joey was currently in a committed relationship with Odie Christenson.

Joey lived in the Millville area his entire life. He previously worked at Elgin Meat Locker, Hormel, was a custodian for the Elgin-Millville schools, as well as owned and operated Hoffman Processing. He currently was working at Hearth and Homes in Lake City. Joey enjoyed spending time with his family, playing with his grandbabies, deer hunting, going for golf cart "buggy rides," camping, and having a good time.

Joey is survived by his fiance, Odie Christenson of Millville; four children, Heather (Dave) Berg of Plainview, Jason (Missy Dohrn) of Lake City, Jennifer Hoffman of Plainview and Jim Hoffman of Millville; Odie's boys, Jason Shadow and Robert "Bob" Johnson both of Kasson, and Aaron Johnson of Millville; his grandchildren, Gavin Berg, Gabriella "Gabby" Hoffman, Hunter Johnson, Jeremy Keller, Jasmine "Jazzy" Shadow, Kyle Shadow, Callie Aleman, Mathew Kullenberg and AJ Johnson; and one great-grandson, Jackson Graves; two sisters, Julie (Jeff) Palm of Millville and Jane (Robert) McGrath of Plainview; one brother, Jeffrey (Patti) Hoffman of Plainview; one sister-in-law, Brenda Hoffman of Millville; ex-wife, Julie Hoffman of Plainview; six nieces and seven nephews; three great-nieces, plus one due soon, and two great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Dollie, and two brothers, Kevin and Jon. 

Friends and family may visit from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
