AGE: 81 • Holiday Heights, Berkeley Twp.

John A. Dempsey, 81, of Holiday Heights, Berkeley Twp., NJ passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Community Medical Center, Toms River.

Born in Perth Amboy, NJ, he lived in Carteret, NJ for 30 years before moving to Berkeley Twp. 26 years ago.

John was an Iron Steel Worker for US Metals in Carteret, NJ for 32 years.

He was a US Army Korean War Veteran and was a life member of the VFW, Perth Amboy, NJ.

He was also a parishioner of St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church, Berkeley Twp.

John was predeceased by his son Brian James Dempsey in 2007 and a grandson Brian John Dempsey in 2005.

Surviving are his wife of 57 ½ years Eileen (nee Sullivan), 2 daughters Coleen Pierre of Hickory, NC and Jacqueline Wendt and her husband Kevin of Howell, NJ, 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren .

A Funeral Mass will be offered Monday 10:30am at St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church, Berkeley Twp., NJ. A Committal service and entombment will follow the Mass at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia, NJ. The family requests that all relatives and friends living in North Jersey, who are planning to attend the services, to please only attend the committal service at the cemetery.

Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
