JOHN P. DURISH
AGE: 99 BRICK
John P. Durish, 99, passed away Monday, Dec. 8. John was born Jan. 24, 1909 in Newark and raised in Czechoslovakia. He returned to America as a young man and lived in Livingston, where he and his wife, Mary, raised their children before retiring to Normandy Beach in 1972 and then later to the Lake Riviera section of Brick. John was a security officer at Bell Laboratories, Whippany for 20 years. He was a life member of the Greater Point Pleasant Area Old Guards; life member of Council 836 Knights of Columbus, Brick; honorary life member of the Rt. Rev. Msgr. John F. Baldwin General Assembly of 4th Degree and its Honor Guard in Brick; member of the Holy Name of Jesus Society, Ocean Beach Area Senior Citizens, Slovak Gymnastic Union Sokol of USA Lodge #12 and the First Catholic Slovak Union (Jednota, Branch 324). He was also a past member of Council 3533 Knights of Columbus in Livingston. John loved working outdoors and was an avid gardener and enjoyed both surf and deep sea fishing.
His wife, Mary, predeceased him in 2000. He is survived by his daughter, Florianne Siemon; his son, John T. and his wife Judith of Palm Coast, Fla; his grandchildren, John C. and Scott Durish, Karen Risko, Laura Marano, and Wendy Siemon; and eight great- grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave. The Funeral Mass celebrating his life will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Philomena's Church, 386 S. Livingston Ave., Livingston. Committal service will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
