JOHN E. "JACK" FITZMAURICE JR.
AGE: 81 TOMS RIVER
John E. "Jack" Fitzmaurice Jr., 81, of Toms River, passed away Sunday, Oct. 12, at home, after a lengthy illness. Born in Cambridge, Mass., he lived in Wyckoff and Roseland prior to moving to Toms River in 1993. A graduate of St. Anselm College, Manchester, N.H., he taught in the Somersworth, N.H., school system for several years prior to joining the General Electric Co. in public relations. In 1964, he joined the American Cyanamid Co., becoming director of marketing for its Consumer Products Division, responsible for their Breck and Pine-Sol product lines. In 1974, he became executive vice president of Cyanamid's Shulton, Inc. division, well known for its Old Spice, Pierre Cardin and L'air du Temps fine fragrance product lines. In 1979, he formed the Periodicals Institute, a marketing and merchandising agency dedicated to increasing single copy sales of magazines, comics and paperback books at the retail level. He remained president and chief executive officer of the Institute until his retirement in 1993. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Montclair Golf Club, West Orange, and the Pompano Beach Golf Club, Pompano Beach, Fla. He was active in the Greenbriar Woodlands Golf Association and its men's and mixed leagues.
He was predeceased by a sister, Sister Patricia Fitzmaurice, CSJ-Boston. He is survived by his wife, Carol; a son, John "Jack" III and his wife Mari-An of Hingham, Mass.; two daughters, Alice Salvini and her husband John of Fairlawn, and Jane Burke of Fairlawn; and a sister, Maureen O'Neal and her husband Albert of N. Marshfield, Mass. Grandpa Jack will be greatly missed by Casey, Caitlin and Sean Fitzmaurice, Michael, Tim and Kevin Salvini, and Meagan and Brendan Burke.
In keeping with his wishes, funeral arrangements are private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Young Life, P.O. Box 520, Colorado Springs, CO 80901. Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, Toms River, is in charge of arrangements.
