John William Spoonauer, amazing father, devoted husband, and friend to all, age 66, of Jackson Twp., lost his courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Mr. Spoonauer was born in Elizabeth and resided in Freehold, moving to Jackson Twp. 9 years ago. John worked as an insurance underwriter for AIG, New York, NY, retiring in 2013. He previously worked for Prudential Reinsurance and Swiss Reinsurance. He was a communicant of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, Jackson Twp.

John was predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret Spoonauer. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dolores Spoonauer of Jackson Twp.; his daughter, Lisa Spoonauer; his sons, Mark Spoonauer and his wife, Kim, Mike Spoonauer and his partner, David Burger; his brother, Michael Spoonauer and his wife, Kathy; and his grandchildren, Mia, Emma, and Cole.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2014 at the George S. Hassler Funeral Home, 980 Bennetts Mills Road, Jackson Twp. A funeral gathering will be offered 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014 at the funeral home. His funeral Liturgy will follow at 9 a.m. at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 935 Bennetts Mills Road, Jackson Twp. Entombment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, 169 W. Main St., Freehold Twp., NJ 07728.
