JOSEPH P. GALLAGHER
BRADLEY BEACH
Joseph P. Gallagher, retired Chief of the Irvington Fire Department, passed away Friday, Oct. 22, 2010 at the Medical Center of Ocean County, Brick Hospital. Born and raised in Irvington, he had lived in Avon by the Sea for many years, also Sea Girt and then again in Avon by the Sea before moving to Bradley Beach 5 years ago. Joseph was a fireman for the City of Irvington his entire working career rising to the rank of Chief at the time of his retirement. Prior to his civic career, he had proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was also a member of the Thomas P. Giblin Association, Newark.
He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Mary Curran Gallagher; his brother, Thomas Gallagher and his sister, Mary Gallagher Rollery, surviving is his devoted wife of 49 years, Marian Repeta Gallagher; his brother, Frank Gallagher of Union, and his sister, Rosemarie Bauer of Short Hills, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday from 1-3pm and 6-8pm followed by a Funeral Service on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 10:30am at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. Burial will be in St. Anne's Cemetery, Wall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312 in his memory. My father, Bob Christman, worked with Joe and held him in high esteem. I also remember my mother, Kay, mentioning you as well. May you find comfort in knowing he was loved.

Joe and my father Al Rocklein worked together at the fire house for many years. Joe was a great friend to my dad and I have fond memories of those days at the firehouse. He will truly be missed.
