Joseph Gawlik Obituary
JOSEPH W. GAWLIK
AGE: 68 BRICK
Joseph W. Gawlik, 68, of Brick, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Ocean Medical Center, Brick. He was a high school mathematics teacher at Brick Township High School, Brick for 39 years, retiring in 2003. Mr. Gawlik was the head of the mathematics department at Brick Township High School. He was a communicant of St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church, Brick. Mr. Gawlik was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. Born in Jersey City, he lived in Lyndhurst before moving to Brick 40 years ago.
Joseph was married to his wonderful wife, Jennie Wadriski Gawlik for 45 years. Surviving are a son, Joseph Gawlik of Ocean Township; a daughter, Allison Gawlik of Lafayette Hill, Pa.; and a brother, Stephen and his wife Carolyn Gawlik of Toms River.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 17 at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Highway 88, Brick. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 18 at St. Dominic's R.C. Church, Brick, followed by an interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Toms River.

I was so sad to hear this news, my thoughts and prayers go out to the Gawlik family. Mr. Gawlik was my teacher at Brick High and in my mind my mentor, he was the reason I am a math teacher today. He was the best, so kind and always understanding. He will be greatly missed.

Let all who read this know that you were not only my Brother but my best fishing buddy. For the rest of my life you will be missed and thought of always.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Mr. Gawlik during this very difficult time. I was deeply saddened to hear of Mr. Gawlik's passing. He was such a kind, good hearted, funny and pleasant man. He was both my teacher and my friend. I feel honored to have had the opportunity to know him and learn from his teachings. I know that many many of his students and fellow teachers will miss him greatly.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time. As a graduate of Brick Township High School, I was saddened by the passing of Mr. Gawlik. He was a kind man who never gave up on his students (even those like me who struggled in math). I had the honor of seeing him years after graduation as I too became a teacher. Together we laughed about the many hours I spent after school on Mondays for additional help. He was a special person who will always be remembered.
