AGE: 75 • Old Bridge
Joseph C. "Connie" Howard, 75, of Old Bridge died June 16, 2017 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Joseph was born March 19, 1942, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to John and Marie Howard. He was proud to have a large family, being one of 11 children. Joseph was a lifelong Old Bridge resident.
Joseph graduated from Brooklyn Boys High School in 1960. Following high school, he worked on Wall Street at The New York Stock Exchange. In 1961 he enlisted in the United States Army. He served as a military police officer during his tour in Korea.
Prior to his retirement, Joseph worked in several capacities for the United States Post Office. He could be seen mostly behind the counter at the Main Street, Sayreville office. To keep occupied during retirement, Joseph worked part time as a school crossing guard at Schirra Elementary School, Old Bridge. He thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the children each day.
In earlier years, Joseph played softball for the Carlisile Texaco mens league. He was an avid bowler and was especially fond of his Irish heritage belonging to The South Amboy Irish- American Association, where he served as President in 1986-1987. Above all, Joseph was a loving father, brother, and grandfather who will be missed by all who knew him. He was affectionately referred to as "Daddy" by his daughter Dolores' friends.
Predeceased by his brothers, Jack and Mike Howard and his sisters, Joyce Wetstein, Juanita Patti, and Joan Murphy-Smith, Joe is survived by his children, Renee Howard Escobedo and her husband Joseph, Joseph C. Howard, Jr., Dolores Francobandiero, and her husband Tony and Michael J. Howard and his fiancé, Jeanne Kenney, his siblings, Chip, James, Jerrod, Janet Lynn, and June Zinno, grandchildren, Michael, Brianna Talia, Angela, Nicholas, Christopher, Mikey, Jr., John, Toni-Joi, and Jamie. He is also survived by his dear companion, Helen Mellon and countless nephews, nieces and cousins.
Visitation will be Monday, June 19 from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM at Whiteley Funeral Home, 241 Bordentown Ave., South Amboy. A service will be held at 8 PM at the funeral home. Committal prayers will be said and military honors will take place on Tuesday, June 20 at 11:30 AM at the chapel at Holy Cross Burial Park, Cranbury Rd., East Brunswick Cremation will be private. To my number one fan of my life,
I miss you immensely. They say grief gets easier first it´s heavy like an overcoat and as the seasons change, the coat gets lighter. I´m never without that garment.
If grief is the price we pay for love, I will gladly pay that debt for the rest of my life in any capacity.
I miss the best friend I had in you. You were the only man I could truly trust. I have become All of the characteristics of the man that you wanted to see me end up with. I´m still hearing about the infidelities eight years later. I will never become bitter For seeing something that didn´t exist. I´ve watched other father /daughter, relationships, nearby, and nobody hold a candle to you. Maybe Michael he comes closest. You´d be so proud of him for his heart I wouldn´t have known what to do without him this last year.
I´m blessed Beyond measure to have had a father like you.

Happy 82nd birthday Daddy!
It´s been almost 7 years without you here. I miss your voice , your singing and the love that you gave.
You were without a doubt the one true fan of my life.
Thank you for always being there for me. I still feel your love from here.
You always said, you loved me all the way to heaven... I never doubted that.
I miss the pedestal I once stood on but you´re genuine and eternal love will carry me for the rest of my life!

Its been 3 yrs Daddy.
I cant say that I havent heard your voice during that time, because I hear it in my mind- my memories and in my dreams.
I have been blessed twice- to have had the great relationship with you on Earth and to be visited by you numerous times in my dreams.
Now you have a better picture from above- I know youre watching and Righting some wrongs. I know youre watching and protecting me. All of your children and grandchildren.
Hug Johnny for me Dad and tell him hes still my- J-birdy- he always asked me that when he was here.
I love you Daddy and I miss you so terribly but I take you with me EVERY STEP from here on out.

Dad,
Thank you for raising such a compassionate, caring daughter. Your love for each other, shows the bond that should be seen by all others to emulate. Your wit, humor and pride are the character traights that were shown daily to all who came to be blessed by your presence. If any family could be judged by success of the relationships within, between a father and his children,i would hope that i could measure up to just a fraction of your success- and i would consider myself lucky. Dad I pray you watch over your children, grandchildren and all who have had the pleasure of knowing you. REST IN PEACE knowing i will always do my best to take care of your family. Rene, Joe,Michael and Dolores I am so sorry for you loss, it's never easy to lose a loved one, but when it's a parent it feels like a part of our own being dies as well.
