Kevin O'Rourke Obituary

Kevin F. O'Rourke

Red Bank - Kevin F. O'Rourke, 67, of Red Bank New Jersey passed away on January 12, 2021 at the Gulf Coast Hospital in Fort Myers Florida.

Kevin was born December 29, 1953 in Jersey City New Jersey to Ruth and Francis O'Rourke. He was an employee of Sanofi-Aventis as Chief Information Officer at the New York City office for over a decade, which allotted him the opportunity to travel internationally and immerse himself in various cultures and customs. Kevin earned his Master of Business Administration from Monmouth University where he was employed as an adjunct professor. He retired in 2008 and moved from Millstone, New Jersey to Naples, Florida. He was an avid fan of sports cars, fishing, gardening, literature, fine arts, fine clothing, and fine dining. Kevin enjoyed being outdoors, traveling with his family, and spending time near the ocean.

Out of all of Kevin's accomplishments, he was most proud of his long-term sobriety. Kevin was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous from 2008 until his passing in 2021. He carried the message of AA to struggling alcoholics through his persistent commitment to helping others.

Kevin O'Rourke was the beloved husband of Adrienne O'Rourke of 46 years; devoted father of Christian O'Rourke and his wife, Gianna, Ashley Molloy and her husband Brian Molloy; loving brother of Colleen O'Rourke, Francis O'Rourke, and Terrence O'Rourke, and cherished grandfather of Finn and Sailor.

As Kevin wished to spend eternity among the seas, his ashes will be spread in the Gulf of Mexico during a burial at sea ceremony in Matlacha, Florida by his immediate family.

I am so sorry to hear of Kevin's passing. He was a great leader of the Sanofi Information Technology department during the years I worked there. I have warm memories of Kevin and I taking time to discuss guitars and guitar players during rare moments when passing in the hallways. He was so intuitive, too. He could pick up on the internal sense of a person. He was generous with recognition when extra effort above and beyond was invested to achieve the group's goals. He was just an all-around great guy. Condolences to the family.

My father. The man who created. Educated & Inspired. You led the charge. Clearing paths and on many occasion the only man I knew who could literally move mountains.... and you did just this. You did this selflessly. Automatically, as natural as one not needing to think about breathing. You showed me the world moving our family to Switzerland for 4 years where we traveled extensively, and immersed ourselves in various cultures. We attended private international schools, where Ashley and I learned to speak 2 different languages. Taking us from the ski slopes of Gstaad, to the gondola rides in Venice, my life was almost surreal. You taught me music, like really good music. You took me to my first concert. Madison Square Garden. 1991. Billy Joel, Sting and Don Henley. The concert for Walden Woods. You taught me guitar when I needed to find a place to put my head into something. I have all of yours and I will play them forever. You got me into fast cars, and yes it was you, so you can’t be angry for my NASCAR driving. Although I could never really fit into your Porsches so I’ll stick with my American Muscle. More than any of this though you taught me to be you, no better than you because that’s what you always wanted, and that’s what I’m always going to be and do for you. You taught me how to love, not love on the surface but love from my heart. You taught me how to respect and treat a women, and because of this I was able to marry the most absolute perfect gorgeous woman in the world. Gianna O’Rourke. She loves you, she loves you a lot. She tells me everyday how much she wished to say Goodbye. But I know you know that. Even more than any of this you taught me one of the hardest jobs in the world. Being a father. Not a dad, but a father. Anyone can be a dad, but a true man is a father. Now that I’m a father I will take all you have given me, and all that you left with me and I’ll use it all everyday to be the best man I can be. You believed in me no matter what it was. You allowed me to pursue and achieve my dream which I get to live everyday. So words could never express the gratitude and love that I have for you, but this was my attempt. The toughest Irishman I knew. Keep up the good fight as you would say. I have your words “It’s all good” written by you on the wall in my gym. I look at it everyday. So I know you wouldn’t want me to end this on a sappy note so I’ll leave you with this. You always told me to be the type of man who when he wakes up in the morning and plants his feet on the floor the devil says “Oh no he’s up.” So i’ll stay up for you dad. I love you.
