Leona Cohen Obituary
AGE: 84 • Long Branch
Leona F. Cohen, 84, of Long Branch, died Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, NJ. She was born in New York, NY, and raised in Lakewood, NJ. A past member of Temple Beth Or, Brick, she was active in many synagogues as well as UJA Federation and Hadassah. Leona enjoyed travel and spending time with her family, often hosting holiday gatherings at home.
Predeceased by her parents, Benjamin and Rita Fradin, her husband, George (1990); and her sister, Minna Gabe; she is survived by her son, Neil Kokin and Tracey Sturman of Jackson, NJ; daughter, Ann Schlesinger and her husband, Alan of Freehold, NJ; daughter, Rita Shabot and her husband, Joe of Brooklyn, NY; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 9, 2017 at Belkoff-Goldstein Funeral Chapel, Lakewood, NJ. Donations in Leona's honor may be made to CHABAD 351 Still-wells Corner Road. Freehold, NJ 07728

Leona was my telephone friend across the US. We talked about many things, our love for Israel, our families, things in general. And we prayed for one another's families, each one by name.
Just as the candle light provides light in the darkness, Leona's light is still shining.

Leona was my telephone friend across the United States. I just loved her. We shared the deep things and the ordinary things, and prayed for one-another's families, each one by name.
We shared our love for Israel, our service with Sar El volunteers for Israel as members of a group of friends who also had served.
Leona is not gone away. Her memory lives in the hearts of those of us who knew her, even by telephone.
