Leslie Hintelmann Obituary

Leslie Doris McFadden Hintelmann (nee Neild)

Bluffton - Leslie Hintelmann died on May 14th, in Bluffton, surrounded by loving friends and family. She was born August 25, 1944, in New York City and moved to Fair Haven, New Jersey when she was a child. She attended Fair Haven Grammar School and Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School, from which she graduated in 1962.

Leslie's passion was to serve others, and she attended nursing school at what was then Fitkin Hospital in Neptune, New Jersey; she graduated third in her class. She received her BS with a major in science from Monmouth University and began a fifty-plus year career in nursing. She married Emerson (Mac) McFadden, and they had two wonderful sons, Carl and Dwight McFadden. She was a super mom and loved them with all her heart.

Leslie and Mac divorced, but when he was later diagnosed with cancer, she did not hesitate to take him into her home; she cared for him until his death. Leslie retired from nursing, finishing her esteemed career in 2012, as Director of the Nurse Aid Program of Catholic Charities in Newark, NJ.

Shortly thereafter, Leslie met and married the love of her life William (Billy) Hintelmann. They moved to Sun City Hilton Head that same year, living first in Whispering Oaks and then in Riverbend. As a result of these moves, Leslie made scores of friends. She loved playing Crazy Canasta, Mahjong, Bunco, and Marble Wars. She served as president of the General Health Education Club in Sun City for two years. She and Billy hosted many parties for their very wonderful friends whom she loved and who loved her.

When Leslie's illness was diagnosed more than two years ago, these friends lovingly supported her. As one might have expected, however, Leslie never lost her smile, encouraged others to take care of their health, and lived every day to the fullest.

She was predeceased by her parents, William and Doris Neild. In addition to her husband, Billy, she is survived by her two sons, Carl McFadden and his wife Kathy, who reside in Boulder Creek, California, and Dwight McFadden and his wife Alexandria, who live in Neptune, New Jersey. She will be mourned by everyone who knew her.

The family will be receiving friends from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 5:30 p.m., Friday, May 18, 2018 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910.

The funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 19, 2018 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 31 St. Gregory Drive, Bluffton, SC 29909.
