(NEE: LEONARD) KEENAN
AGE: 86 RAMSEY
Margaret "Marge" (nee Leonard) Keenan, age 86, died on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the home of her daughter, Judy, in Ramsey, NJ. Marge was born May 2, 1923 in Clifton, NJ to Honora Raftery and Patrick Leonard from County Galway and County Roscommon, Ireland respectively. She graduated from St. Paul's Parochial School, Clifton, in 1937 and St. John's Cathedral High School, Paterson, in 1941. Following high school, she worked at Banker's Trust, in New York, and Manhattan Rubber, Passaic, NJ.
On November 24, 1945, she married CPO Joseph D. Keenan, USN. They lived in Clifton until 1955 when they moved to Middletown, NJ.
Marge enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her four children. She loved gardening, reading, refinishing furniture and family camping trips on the islands of Lake George, NY. In 1970, she went to work as a sales clerk at Bamberger's Department Store (now Macy's) in the Monmouth Mall. She retired in 1987.
Marge was predeceased by her husband, Joe, her daughter, Peggy Keenan Farrell, her parents, her brother Tom, her sisters Ann Leonard and Joan Leonard Foy, her son-in-law Jack Maher, and her grandson John Maher.
Surviving are her children Judith Keenan Maher of Ramsey, NJ; Mary Keenan Welch and her husband Kevin of Lewisburg, Tennessee; Joe and his wife Lynn of Leonardo, NJ; her grandchildren, Susan Maher Greco and her husband Michael of Haskell, NJ; Greer Farrell of Charleston, SC and Adrienne Farrell of Portland, OR; Alexandra and Lauren Keenan and Elizabeth, Matthew and Liam Welch; her great grandchildren, Taylor and Bryce Greco; and her sister, Catherine Meyer of Margate, FL. Marge's family wishes to give a special thanks to Clara Malone and Juana Mazines for the loving care they have given our mother for the past three years.
Viewing will take place at the John E. Day Funeral Home 85 Riverside Ave. Red Bank, NJ 07701 on Wednesday April 14, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mary's RC Church in New Monmouth on Thursday April 15, 2010 at 10:30 AM. Interment will take place at the Cemetery of the Maples in East Chatham, NY Friday April 16, 2010 at 1:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to The Martin House, 794 East State Street, PO Box 1025, Trenton, NJ 08606-1025 (www.MartinHouse.org) in Marge's name.
