Berkeley - Margaret Frances (Nicholson) Murphy died Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. She was 83.

Born May 10, 1938 in Tompkinsville, Staten Island, NY, she resided there until meeting the love her life, Daniel Anthony Murphy, while hanging out at the Tompkinsville Pool in 1952.

The pair would go on to celebrate 60 years of marriage on October 8th, 2020.

Margie graduated from Immaculate Conception School and attended Curtis High School in St. George. Before retiring in 1999, she worked for many years at King Chevrolet in Staten Island and the Jacob Goldberg Scrap Iron in Perth Amboy, NJ.

Margie and Danny enjoyed travelling around the world, but she especially enjoyed a riverboat cruise that took them through 5 countries.

She was an avid golfer, having received numerous awards for her excellence in play. Margie was a member of several women's golf leagues, including Metuchen, NJ and Cedar Creek. She was able to play such renowned courses as Pebble Beach, The Dural Country Club, the Desert Inn of Las Vegas, and Trump National. She also played in international locations, including Puerto Rico, Spain, Bermuda, and the Bahamas.

Margaret was an only child and was predeceased by her parents: Mr. & Mrs. Edwin Nicholson; and her stepmother, Carmen Durant.

Surviving are her loving husband, Daniel Murphy; her godmother, Margaret White of NY; her Godson, Bob Hankey; childhood friend, Josephine Hankey; brothers-in-law: David (Mary) Murphy and Richard (Barbara) Murphy; sisters-in-law: Anna Lucchese, Dolores Fiore, and Dorothy Torrone; along with many nieces, nephews, and great nieces & nephews.

A visitation will be held at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River, on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 from 7-9PM.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at 12PM. Entombment will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River.

Margaret Murphy will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to know her. As the song says, "It's not what you take when you leave this world behind you...It's what you leave behind you when you go..." Margaret leaves behind a legacy of love that will be felt for generations to come.
